From Gaza to Reggello: a family of six welcomed by the community of Sant'Agata in Arfoli through the John Paul II Foundation Reggello (Florence), Sept. 29, 2025 - From Gaza to Reggello: a family in need of peace and care has found welcome in the parish of Sant'Agata in Arfoli, a small hamlet, but very cohesive and ready to extend its arms to welcome those in need. The family consists of six people: dad and mom aged 43 and 42 and four children, including three girls aged 19, 17 and 15 and a 12-year-old son. They arrived in Italy a little over a month ago, having emerged from the Gaza hell thanks to a humanitarian corridor that moved to be able to secure the necessary care for one of the daughters. THE JOHN PAUL II FOUNDATION FROM POPE LEO XIV Yesterday, John Paul II Foundation President Damiano Bettoni met with Pope Leo XIV at the Vatican. The occasion was an audience with members of the Mediterranean Youth Council during the plenary meeting being held between Florence, Fiesole and Rome. The John Paul II Foundation is part of the Mare Nostrum Network, which coordinates the council. On the same day, President Bettoni was also able to explain the Foundation's commitment and numerous activities to the Secretary General of the IEC, Msgr. Giuseppe Baturi. YOUTH COUNCIL OF THE MEDITERRANEAN Sept. 2 meeting at Palazzo Vecchio with mayor, city council president, the Bishop of Beirut Bishop Essayan, then with Archbishop Archbishop Gambelli Work has begun for the 34 young people from 20 countries of the "Mare Nostrum" in Fiesole for the plenary session of the Mediterranean Youth Council until Sept. 7, a week of meetings and moments of dialogue and confrontation that brings together delegates designated by the Bishops' Conferences and Patriarchates. Luciano Giovannetti, fondatore e primo presidente della Fondazione nonché per tanti anni Vescovo e poi Vescovo emerito proprio della diocesi fiesolana. Fu lui a guidare il gruppo di 600 fedeli della stessa Diocesi che nell’agosto del 1997, in viaggio verso la  Terra Santa, furono fermati alle porte di Betlemme dall’esercito israeliano.
