Foundation meets with the Mayor of Fiesole

On Monday, July 18, the Mayor of Fiesole, Anna Ravoni, met with Yuri Sapiga, director of Green Cross Ukraine, and other representatives of the Foundation.

Sapiga, who with Green Cross has organized the humanitarian corridors to enable Ukrainian families to reach the reception facilities in Fiesole and Montevarchi, thanked the mayor as follows, "I would like to thank you, dear mayor, and through you all the mayors and Italian citizens who for months have been welcoming us Ukrainians, especially women with small children, who are forced to flee the war, the bombings, the sound of sirens announcing the arrival of missiles on homes, schools, and supermarkets."

The Mayor of Fiesole in the morning received a small delegation of operators at the City Hall for a meeting where some lines of action for the coming months were outlined. In addition to Yuri Sapiga, Mayor Ravoni also received Maria Vitagliano, director of the Social and Medical program of Green Cross, and Stefano Ermini, responsible for the John Paul II Foundation's program for welcoming Ukrainian families. Mayor Ravoni said she would be willing to consider together a "friendship pact" between the City of Fiesole and a Ukrainian city, but above all she thanked "for the effort that is being put into publicizing the war situation in Ukraine; into welcoming women with young children. The initiatives you are promoting are important because they allow the population to meet with the Ukrainian friends we host and understand what the situation in that country really is."

Maria Vitagliano thanked Mayor Ravoni for her daily commitment to the Ukrainian community in the municipality and invited her at the end of August to travel to Ukraine to see for herself the enormous damage caused by the war. Thanks to the collaboration with Green Cross, the John Paul II Foundation has welcomed more than 30 Ukrainians, both in Fiesole at the Rogationist Fathers' house and in Montevarchi in the house made available by the Augustinian nuns. The next event will be a charity dinner at Villa Pettini (in the municipality of Montevarchi, Thursday, July 21), while in mid-September another dinner will be held at the Circolo Arci di Pian del Mugnone in the municipality of Fiesole.
