Macro strategy of reception

John Paul II Foundation / Macro strategy of reception

RECEPTION IN ITALY

First reception

First reception consists of projects such as Extraordinary Reception Centers for asylum seekers, humanitarian corridors, and our emergency intervention in Ukraine. During this phase, we focus on orientation in the territory and provide health, legal and psychological assistance. Afterwards, we work on integration through Italian courses and support for job placement.

Second reception

In the second phase of reception, we operate in a network, based on the needs analysis of the moment. We directly manage some apartments and provide services to other facilities in the area. Access to these projects is reserved exclusively for families who have already started the integration process, master the Italian language, have a stable job or one that is being stabilized, and need further accompaniment. During this phase, the intervention of operators is reduced, while the involvement of the community and volunteers becomes central. The goal is to complete the families' integration into society and make them active citizens.

Counters

Since 2020, we have established a desk for legal information and psychological support, while in the last two years we have expanded services with the addition of desks dedicated to housing support and socio-occupational guidance. These desks are present in the Valdarno region and are accessible to all migrants in the area. Starting in 2023, we introduced a new service: the community worker.

The importance of COMMUNITY

For a foreign family, poverty is primarily "relational" in nature. They often lack a support network that must be built around them. The community must become a beneficiary of our projects, as much as the families we welcome. For this reason, the figure of the community worker is crucial since he or she aims to build bridges between the host community and foreign nationals, getting closer and breaking down possible barriers.
