John Paul II Foundation / Back to Bethlehem

Back to Bethlehem

Bethlehem is a city that has been suffering for too long because of the wall of separation. Then, in recent years, the Covid has taken away the Holy Land's embrace of the whole world that used to pour here on pilgrimage.

Without pilgrims, suddenly, Bethlehem became even more fragile and desolate. Many families found themselves without jobs and poverty increased dramatically.

The John Paul II Foundation for 25 years has been doing daily work alongside its brothers and sisters in Bethlehem with many projects and activities to ensure a decent life and a better tomorrow.

At Piccirillo Handicraft Center young people with disabilities in Bethlehem are employed

in the processing of typical Palestinian handicrafts in olive wood, ceramics and

mother-of-pearl: for them not only a source of income, but a realization

personal and the possibility of preserving and handing down an art as old as it is

important.

To theEffetà Institute every day 200 deaf children receive rehabilitation and

education: they are the Sisters Teachers of St. Dorothy who, together with speech therapists and

teachers, take care of their growth, ensuring that they have a path of

inclusion and independence

At House of Peace youth and children attend Italian language classes,

ballet and modern dance, sports activities such as soccer and karate, the

drawing and art workshops. We offer a carefree space that is

become a very important reference point for the children of Bethlehem

Who, enclosed by the separation wall, have no leisure.
