The first two families of "And you welcomed me..." arrived.

The "And You Welcomed Me..." project kicked off yesterday with the arrival of the first two families of asylum seekers from Darfour, Sudan.

The families, who landed in Italy yesterday, arrived through the humanitarian corridor channel, the legal and safe means of making vulnerable people who are entitled to asylum travel and stay on Italian soil.

The families have been taken in at Villa Pettini in Montevarchi, in the Arezzo Valdarno, where they will stay for a year. The John Paul II Foundation will work alongside Caritas Diocesana of Fiesole to teach them Italian, support them through intercultural mediation, psychological support and legal counseling.

Families will thus be guided toward their own autonomy through vocational training and job placement opportunities.

Let's give them a warm welcome!
