DIALOGUE FOR A NEW WORLD
Students from six schools in Tuscany design the future
Monday, April 14, at Il Fuligno in Florence, the conclusion of the John Paul II Foundation's educational program with the Regional School Office and the Giorgio La Pira Foundation
The educational project "Dialogue for a New World" for the school year 2024/25, sponsored by the Regional School Office for Tuscany, the John Paul II Foundation, and the Giorgio La Pira Foundation, in implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding on Peace Education and Interculture, is nearing its conclusion.
Five high schools and one middle school from four provinces (Siena, Florence, Arezzo and Pisa) joined this year's initiative with the aim of enhancing, from a young age, dialogue as a tool for communication and mutual understanding, as well as a space for confrontation, sharing of ideas and the building of nonviolent coexistence among different people.
The course was divided into three main areas - communication, politics and new lifestyles (dignity of the person, economy, work) - with the aim of stimulating a sense of responsibility, active participation, critical reflection and authentic relationships within the classes.
Thanks to the active engagement of their teachers, that of experts, practitioners of the two Foundations, and with the support of teaching materials, students were involved in the creation of projects on the topics addressed, which were then translated into final papers.
The result was 24 projects, born from the imagination and curiosity of young people, but very concrete and forward-looking. They will be presented by the students themselves on the project's final and return day, April 14 at Il Fuligno center in Florence (via Faenza) starting at 9:15 a.m.
Among others, Father Bernardo Gianni, abbot of the Basilica of San Miniato al Monte, will speak: he will dialogue with the young people present precisely on the theme of a "Dialogue for a New World."
At the end of the meeting, the Presidents of the two Foundations will award prizes to the winning student groups. Prizes include a day in Florence at the end of May from Palazzo Vecchio for 20-25 eighth-grade students, a day also in Florence from the Basilica of San Miniato a Monte for 20 high school students, two days in Trent for 20 students in October for high school students.
