PAPA LEON XIV
John Paul II Foundation commentary
"New pontiff to be interpreter of human complexity pacified if united in differences"
The John Paul II Foundation welcomes with gratitude, emotion and renewed hope the election of the new Pontiff Pope Leo XIV, successor of Peter and guide for the universal Church.
"Peace be with you" were his first, meaningful words as Pontiff.
Our wish for the new Pontiff is that he may lead the Church with the meek strength of great pastors, capable of speaking to the heart of the world, in the certainty that Peace, built day after day with gestures of justice and proximity, is the most fruitful path.
A peace, as he himself said, be "disarming, humble, persevering," to build bridges together, as he suggests, "to build bridges with dialogue and encounter, to be one people, to be at peace."
With the words entrusted to us by Pope Francis still in our hearts, even under the leadership of the new Pontiff we will carry forward our daily commitment inspired by what was indicated by St. John Paul II, after whom our Foundation is named: interreligious and intercultural dialogue, particularly in the Holy Land, international cooperation as a means of concrete support, and support for vulnerable populations so that no one is excluded from the possibility of a dignified future.
May the new Pope be a guarantor of Christianity, but also an interpreter of the complexities that envelop a humanity that is pacified only if united in differences.
In this time marked by wars, poverty and deep rifts, we renew our commitment as a Foundation to be instruments of reconciliation and builders of hope, in communion with the new Successor of Peter. Committed to be "bridges with dialogue" and in peace
"Do not be afraid! Open, indeed, open wide the doors to Christ!" With these words St. John Paul II opened his pontificate almost 47 years ago. Today, with faith and enthusiasm, we remember them to welcome the new Pope and walk together toward a more human, more just, more fraternal world, a world in which we build and not divide, always "Pilgrims of Hope."
