Death of Pope Francis
Condolences from the John Paul II Foundation
We learned with grief of the death of the pontiff Pope Francis, in the aftermath of the Easter that he wanted with - now we really know - all his strength to celebrate in the midst of the community.
To participants at the 2014 World Meeting of Popular Movements, Jorge Mario Bergoglio defined solidarity this way, "It is thinking and acting in terms of community, of prioritizing the lives of all over the appropriation of goods by some. It is also to fight against the structural causes of poverty, inequality, lack of work, land and housing, the denial of social and labor rights ."
It is what all of us, each in our own role, at the John Paul II Foundation also strive to do. It is what the cooperators do every day among the communities where we are present, it is what we do in Italy every day in reception. To fight against the structural causes of inequality: this is our mission, taught to us also by St. John Paul II and which moves our every day and our every commitment.
In his latest address for Easter, which we celebrated only yesterday, Pope Francis called for prayer for Christian communities in the Middle East and war-torn peoples, asking for reconciliation and peace, hope and comfort for the people who are victims of violence and conflict as well as the breaking down of political and economic divisions. He urged us "to care for one another, to increase mutual solidarity, to work to foster the integral development of every human person."
On this Angel Monday so painful for the whole Church, the John Paul II Foundation joins in Pope Francis' last public prayer and we pray with him and for him.
