Trial of Powers

On the occasion of Jubilee 2025, the John Paul II Foundation is promoting the project "Trial of Powers," an educational workshop aimed at secondary school students in Tuscany, carried out in collaboration with the Regional School Office. The initiative was created with the aim of developing critical thinking in young people, stimulating reflection on the concept of power and its different manifestations - political, religious, cultural and economic - in the light of history and current events.

The course consists of three phases: teacher training, classroom preparation with the classes involved, and a final event, scheduled for December 3, 2025 in Palazzo Vecchio (Florence), where students will stage a real "trial by power." Following the debate methodology, the students will assume the roles of prosecution and defense, arguing their respective theses with the help of historical sources, quotes and personal reflections. A jury of experts and representatives of academia will evaluate the arguments and deliver a symbolic verdict.

The project is proposed as an opportunity for civic education and formative orientation, but above all as a space for new generations to listen, compare and actively participate, so that they can recognize their rights, cultivate responsibility and contribute to the construction of shared ethics and a more just world.
