It's back to school in Palestine!
After the summer vacation of 2023, we had started the new school year with great enthusiasm, organizing creative teaching activities to engage our hearing-impaired pupils in the learning process. Unfortunately, after only a month, we had to close the school due to the ongoing war. Despite the difficulties, in January, we bravely reopened the school even though due to the conflict and road restrictions, only a few pupils were able to return to the Institute, because many of them come from countries and villages far from Bethlehem and cannot pass the strict controls around them.
This situation caused us great pain and frustration, but we did not give up. We met with the children's families and decided to start again, slightly adjusting the teaching disciplines to make up for lost time and continue the training-education of our deaf children. After the holiday season, it was heartwarming to see all the pupils returning to school with one cry, "We want school! We want to come to school! We want life!" Their enthusiasm gave us new strength, making us forget all fatigue and discomfort. We found them changed, more aware and engaged, eager to prepare to face the future and manage their lives independently.
In this difficult time, we have seen "Providence" manifest itself through concrete gestures of closeness from generous-hearted people. Donations have provided us with the necessary resources to meet the needs of the moment, giving us the courage to continue to serve, help and accompany our little ones with greater serenity. We face this new school year beginning with Christian hope and joy because we are certain of the closeness of so many friends and supporters.
