“FROM PAIN TO HOPE”
Giuseppe Zois's latest book in support of the Effetà Institute of Bethlehem
through the John Paul II Foundation
From the loss of a daughter to the desire to give something of himself through his writings: in his latest book, Giuseppe Zois wanted to take a journey that starts from the most terrible mourning and aims at the future through support for those who can still hope. “Dal dolore alla speranza” published by Villadiseriana (2025) is an act of love towards Giuseppe Zoi’s firstborn, Barbara, who died too young. In addition to the author’s writings, it collects contributions by Lina Bertola, Vinicio Carminati, Arianna Castelletti, Marianna Colavolpe, Pietro De Luca, Bepi De Marzi, Pier Giacomo Grampa, Dacia Maraini, Graziano Martignoni, Rita Pavone, Antonio Perugini, Rino Pistellato, Domenica Salvi, Sister Eliana of the Little Sisters of Mary (Eremo della Trasfigurazione, Collepino/Spello). The volume also contains posthumous testimonies by Clemente Gaddi, David Maria Turoldo and Sandro Vitalini.

Zois has decided to donate the proceeds from the sale of his book to the Effetà Paolo VI Institute in Bethlehem through the John Paul II Foundation. In this way, in memory of Barbara, he will contribute to supporting the school specialized in the audio-phonetic re-education of hearing-impaired children living in the Palestinian territories; in a land where deafness is a major and widespread problem even among the youngest, Effetà guarantees these children care, specialist visits, essential materials and training and preparation to face the future independently.
Giuseppe Zois is the author of fifty books in which he has traveled and continues to walk, facing the signs of the times, hardships and expectations, discouragements and hopes, dreams and conquests. He has told stories of women and men committed to building or mending the wounded dignity of living, advancing through modern labyrinths and fogs, from Abel who gets a shot to the solitude of grandparents and not only them. Above all, always, a will: hope is a but that helps to move forward. This is the soil in which the testimonies and pages of books such as Pinocchio and his brothers (Piemme), Down with Pinocchio (Mondadori), The string of kites (SanPaolo), The night of sunflowers (Gribaudi), A risk called family (Pezzoli) and Where emotions live (Einaudi) with Mario Botta and Paolo Crepet have grown.
