September represents throughout Italy the time for the return to school. 7 million children, boys and girls in these hours are packing their backpacks for the first day of classes, ready to walk through the school door again or for the first time. As always, these are days filled with different and mixed emotions: there is the excitement of a new beginning, but also the sadness for an exciting summer that is now over, the eagerness to find out what the school year will have in store for us, and at the same time the fear that something might go wrong. There are those who eagerly look forward to this day and those who wish it would never come: the alarm clock going off again at dawn, homework to be done, and tests and quizzes to pass. On July 21, 2023, the John Paul II Foundation received the status of an International Organization Validated by "CAF International Global Charity Database." Charities Aid Foundation America is an organization that allows U.S. companies, associations and citizens to make donations to organizations around the world, guaranteeing them on the one hand a tax deduction and on the other hand the solidity and transparency of the charities they accredit. CAF America went through the entire exhaustive process of verifying and reviewing the organizational chart, mission, financial status and business plan of the John Paul II Foundation, recognizing it as eligible for inclusion in its database. The John Paul II Foundation will henceforth be able to receive donations from U.S. donors through CAF America.  On July 19 and August 1 we were convened with other operators-mayors and representatives of institutions-in the Prefecture in Arezzo to agree on possible solutions to the exceptional increase in asylum seekers. We took note that the new provisions (l.n.n. 50/2023, Cutro Decree) provide for the drastic decrease of the services hitherto provided to the guests of the Extraordinary Reception Centers, limiting them to the provision of room and board only. The John Paul II Foundation has always guaranteed all services: Italian course, psychological support, legal orientation, vocational training and job search even during the periods when they were not mandatory because we believe that in order to foster integration, it is imperative to make the migrant less of a "foreigner" in the host community with important results for general security. President Andrea Bottinelli's letter of greetings addressed to all those who contribute to the promotion of the Foundation's values and work. The "Bethlehem Reborn" Exhibition, an ideal setting that allowed us to tell the story of the Foundation for fifteen days with a rhapsodic narrative, from current economic and cultural issues to the more challenging social-religious ones with the pleasant Italo-Palestinian folk counterpoint and the sweetness of fairy tales recited to children, which I believe struck the interest if not the curiosity of many friends and visitors, has recently ended.
