September represents throughout Italy the time for the return to school. 7 million children, boys and girls in these hours are packing their backpacks for the first day of classes, ready to walk through the school door again or for the first time. As always, these are days filled with different and mixed emotions: there is the excitement of a new beginning, but also the sadness for an exciting summer that is now over, the eagerness to find out what the school year will have in store for us, and at the same time the fear that something might go wrong. There are those who eagerly look forward to this day and those who wish it would never come: the alarm clock going off again at dawn, homework to be done, and tests and quizzes to pass. As young people, in fact, we often struggle to understand the importance of school and how useful the notions we learn here can be in the...

On July 21, 2023, the John Paul II Foundation received the status of an International Organization Validated by "CAF International Global Charity Database." Charities Aid Foundation America is an organization that allows U.S. companies, associations and citizens to make donations to organizations around the world, guaranteeing them on the one hand a tax deduction and on the other hand the solidity and transparency of the charities they accredit. CAF America went through the entire exhaustive process of verifying and reviewing the organizational chart, mission, financial status and business plan of the John Paul II Foundation, recognizing it as eligible for inclusion in its database. The John Paul II Foundation will henceforth be able to receive donations from U.S. donors through CAF America. This is a very important milestone in continuing to improve the lives of the most fragile people in the Middle East, Italy and everywhere in the world. ...

On July 19 and August 1 we were convened with other operators-mayors and representatives of institutions-in the Prefecture in Arezzo to agree on possible solutions to the exceptional increase in asylum seekers. We took note that the new provisions (l.n.n. 50/2023, Cutro Decree) provide for the drastic decrease of the services hitherto provided to the guests of the Extraordinary Reception Centers, limiting them to the provision of room and board only. The John Paul II Foundation has always guaranteed all services: Italian course, psychological support, legal orientation, vocational training and job search even during the periods when they were not mandatory because we believe that in order to foster integration, it is imperative to make the migrant less of a "foreigner" in the host community with important results for general security. Aware of the risk of having a sudden increase in asylum seekers without the necessary integration services, we intend to enhance the approach that has always distinguished us, which is to identify pathways...

An immersive video installation and a schedule of events produced by the City of Florence, MUS.E and the Commissariat of the Holy Land of Tuscany: from the double interview with the Patriarch of Jerusalem of the Latins Pierbattista Pizzaballa and the Archbishop of Florence Giuseppe Betori to the meeting on Giorgio La Pira, from the conference on the 60th anniversary of John XXIII's encyclical "Pacem in terris" to the in-depth study on the ABF GlobaLAB project to the parallels between the geography of Florence and that of Jerusalem and the focus on the excavations at the Holy Sepulchre. April 19-28, 2023 Sala D'Arme of Palazzo Vecchio, Florence "The city is not a pile of random stones but an organic and functional whole. Every city has its own soul made by the people who made its history." Giorgio La Pira Florence, April 3, 2023 - One year after the Florence Mediterranean Mayors' Forum, the City of Florence, MUS.E and the Commissariat of the Holy Land of Tuscany propose, in the Sala d'Arme...

President Andrea Bottinelli's letter of greetings addressed to all those who contribute to the promotion of the Foundation's values and work. The "Bethlehem Reborn" Exhibition, an ideal setting that allowed us to tell the story of the Foundation for fifteen days with a rhapsodic narrative, from current economic and cultural issues to the more challenging social-religious ones with the pleasant Italo-Palestinian folk counterpoint and the sweetness of fairy tales recited to children, which I believe struck the interest if not the curiosity of many friends and visitors, has recently ended. I am sure it has not escaped anyone's notice how the events "Scientific Committee," "Foundation Day," and "Mediterranean Youth Council," gathered in the splendid halls of the Museo degli Innocenti with the participation of authoritative representatives of Arab and Palestinian diplomacy, high church dignitaries, culture, politics and the City of Florence, had a strong media and emotional prominence. All the...

From Feb. 23 to 27, the second "Mediterranean Frontier of Peace" meeting of reflection and spirituality was held in Florence. The conference followed, and developed, the lines drawn at the meeting held in Bari in February 2020, when Pope Francis had entrusted an important "work of reconciliation and peace" to the Catholic bishops of the dioceses bordering the Mediterraneano....

It's been three years since I attended the historic meeting that took place in Abu Dhabi, where the grandeur of Pope Francis' human and spiritual charisma united in a historic embrace with that of the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, Ahmad Al-Tayyeb, evoking centuries later the meeting between St. Francis and the Sultan of Egypt Malik al Kamel in Damietta, who opened the ways of dialogue....
