Humanitarian Emergencies

Although the pandemic has crippled the whole world, there is only one thing that has gone on undisturbed in some countries: war.

Hundreds of armed conflicts, clashes between militias and brutal repression are currently taking place around the world. The most dramatic situations are in Africa, where in as many as 11 countries there is armed fighting (Burkina Faso, Egypt, Libya, Mali, Mozambique, Nigeria, Central African Republic-where Muslims and Christians often clash in gunfire, Democratic Republic of Congo, Somalia, Sudan and South Sudan) and in the Middle East, where wars in Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria, Yemen and never-ending conflicts such as the Israeli-Palestinian conflict have persisted for years.

From its earliest years, the John Paul II Foundation has always brought its aid to the people affected by war, especially in the Holy Land, Syria, Iraq and Lebanon, a country that has hosted millions of refugees and now finds itself in a condition of great instability at the political, economic and social levels, further aggravated by the tragic explosion that occurred at the port of Beirut.

Our help was concentrated in the refugee camps in Lebanon, where we provided for the distribution of basic necessities, while in Syria in the cities most affected by the war, such as Homs and Aleppo, we offered shelter and psychological support to the youngest children, many of whom had never had the chance to go to school, receive care and live their childhood peacefully. Not only that: we also provided reconstruction and funding for those spaces that had been destroyed by the bombs and were needed to carry out the activities of care, comfort and welcome for our brothers and sisters in the Middle East.
