On July 19 and August 1 we were convened with other operators-mayors and representatives of institutions-in the Prefecture in Arezzo to agree on possible solutions to the exceptional increase in asylum seekers. We took note that the new provisions (l.n.n. 50/2023, Cutro Decree) provide for the drastic decrease of the services hitherto provided to the guests of the Extraordinary Reception Centers, limiting them to the provision of room and board only. The John Paul II Foundation has always guaranteed all services: Italian course, psychological support, legal orientation, vocational training and job search even during the periods when they were not mandatory because we believe that in order to foster integration, it is imperative to make the migrant less of a "foreigner" in the host community with important results for general security. Aware of the risk of having a sudden increase in asylum seekers without the necessary integration services, we intend to enhance the approach that has always distinguished us, which is to identify pathways...

Lebanon is a country in collapse: people are getting poorer and poorer, young people are also leaving the country illegally, risking death at sea, a phenomenon never before seen in the country. So many families who did not have problems before are now asking for help to be able to send their children to school or for treatment, just think that a Covid-19 diagnostic swab costs as much as a monthly salary....

John Paul II Foundation asks for help for earthquake victims in Turkey and Syria. The earthquake that has destroyed large parts of Turkey and Syria has forced many people to flee their homes and remain without access to goods and services. In the affected regions at the moment, temperatures are very low and food is lacking. In particular, the city of Aleppo, which has been tried by more than 12 years of war, is at the end of its strength. The international community is already helping those affected by the earthquake. The John Paul II Foundation is also close to the earthquake-affected people and has been working in the affected areas for years. In Anatolia, where Florentine Bishop Father Paolo Bizzetti is working, and in the city of Aleppo, where Franciscans have been present for more than eight centuries, through Father Firas Lutfi, who is responsible for the Custody of the Holy Land in that area.
